ANALYZER, SURFACE FINISH
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (in reference to MIL-I-45177).
Scope: This commercial item description covers a precision instrument using electrical amplification and equipped with adequate accessories to indicate surface roughness of both spherical and flat surfaces.
Applicable documents. The following documents of the issues in effect on date of invitation for bids or request for proposal, form a part of this commercial item description to the extent specified herein:

ANSI B46.1 Surface Texture (surfaces roughness, waviness and lay)
ANSI Standards are available from American National Standards Institute, Inc, 1430 Broadway, New York, NY 10018.
Salient characteristics. Salient characteristics shall be equal or better than the following capabilities as applicable to ANSI B46.1 and other details as specified:
1. Roughness ranges: 0 to 10, 30, 100, 300, and 1000 microinches (respectively O to 0.25, 0.76, 2.54, 7.62, and 25.4 micrometers).
2. Roughness width cutoffs: 0.030, 0.010, and 0.003 inches (respectively 0.762, 0.254, and 0.0762 millimeters).
3. Accuracy tolerance: 5 percent of full scale
4. Stylus force: 1 gram or less
5. Measures roughness on:
a. Outside diameters: 0.31 inch (7.87 mm) and larger
b. Inside diameters 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) and larger
6. Power: Either 115V, 60Hz, or battery
